Swords & Sorcery Online
The long awaited new VRMMORPG, SSO, has finally been released. Paired with the recently developed Nervlink system, it promises a brand new way to experience this created reality. Launch day has arrived and you have made all preparations to dive in headfirst and join your online friends on this new adventure. However, not all is as it seems in this new world.

The First Act
My intention with this campaign is to play through what I would consider to be the first act or the first "season" of a larger story within this world. Planning it this way allows us to plan for roughly 6-10 sessions without committing to anything too large all at once. This first arc will still have a goal and a clear end but I suspect many things will still be left open ended. Perhaps one day we can get together again for the next act of this story!
Your Character In The World
Characters in this campaign begin at 1st level. For this campaign you can select any character options available on this website.
You are a human in the real world. The world you're from is similar to Earth in the not so distant future. You are also an avatar in Swords & Sorcery Online and this will likely be the primary persona that your friends will know you by, although you may know another player's human in real life as well if you wish.
It will be a requirement that you already know each other as "online friends."
Your human should have a normal name and have a simple story of where they are from. Examples include:
- A pimply teenager who is free for the summer to enjoy this brand new game with their friends; perhaps you were even lucky enough to be a beta tester!
- The average John or Jane — works a regular 9-5, comes home to relax and play games, and has decided to pick up SSO as a casual.
- A smelly old guy who lives in their parents' basement and has memorized everything they can about the game beforehand.
You get the idea. Feel free to be creative or just play as yourself!
Your human's avatar should have it's own name. Preferably this will be a fantasy "lore accurate" type of name, but I'm also open to you having a little more fun with this too (just please NO "W1ldStyle420" type of names). It's up to you if other players will refer to you by your Human name or your Avatar's name.
When making your D&D character, consider it through the lens of someone else making a character for a video game. It gets kind of meta but feel free to lean into that!
Roleplay and Meta Conversations
This type of game will not be our usual style of game. I'm fully comfortable to embrace a more casual setting at the table without accents and such (unless you want to give your Human an accent such as a Boston or Western accent). Additionally, I'm more willing to allow for pretty meta conversations within certain bounds. For example, HP and other stats may be visible to players during combat and you guys can makes decisions based on that. Or perhaps you were a beta tester and want to see if you can recall if the upcoming boss had a special ability. What I don't want is everyone pulling up the monster manual during the game.
Let me know if you have any questions! Remember to talk with everyone else in Discord about what you might be thinking so we can coordinate your characters' classes.
